Our finest generation is quickly leaving us to go to a well-deserved rest. They survived the Great Depression, fought in World War II, built our economy and continue to stay active working for justice and peace. These men and women built a strong foundation for our society enabling us to enjoy the highest standard of living of any country in the world. One man describes the struggles, obstacles and victories of living through these times.
In this book, Howard Wiseman describes growing up in the 20s and 30s after a suspicious fire destroyed his home at a time when scarce food, work, clothing and made every day a struggle to survive. He takes us up to the war years and shows the realities of boot camp training, transfer to England, and the invasion of Normandy. Then he guides us through mud and hedgerows to the liberation of Paris and the Battle of the Bulge.
"When the intent of one group is to shoot and kill another just for the goal of gaining a foothold in another country, then we can say war is hell. There are no words to describe what its like to walk over or around dead enemies or our own dead soldiers just to get to shelter."At the end of the war, Wiseman tried to get treatment for his wounds with limited success. He graduated from the College of William and Mary. As a civilian Naval investigator, Wiseman shows us his life in the 50s and 60s as he investigates murders, sabotage, and other crimes. Even in retirement, Wiseman continues his efforts to pursue liberty and justice working to help disabled veterans receive the services they deserve. What message emerges from the pages of The Second Wiseman - A Quest for Liberty and Justice?
